When you ask people about setting goals, they seem to be in either one camp or the other – they either do it or they don’t. One of the reasons that people don’t like setting goals is because more often than not, their goals never come to be, so they just have resolved that setting goals may work for everyone else, but not for them. There is no doubt that setting goals is one of the best things you can do to make positive changes in your life. But there is a strategy to setting goals in a way that will better ensure your success – you have to do it S-M-A-R-T. S-M-A-R-T is an acronym to follow that will help you create goals that have more substance and a better chance of coming to fruition. Setting S-M-A-R-T goals means to make them Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Timely. You define them clearly with a realistic, yet challenging, quantifiable, achievable, and time bound action plan. Go back and look at your goals and be sure to make them S-M-A-R-T.
Why is it that so many of us feel that prosperity is something to feel guilty about, to be ashamed of, or that we are undeserving of? These are lose-lose perspectives. Why is it that so many of us feel that prosperity is something to feel guilty about, to be ashamed of, or that we are undeserving of? These are lose-lose perspectives. If we feel guilty about it or are ashamed of it, we are actually preventing ourselves from manifesting it. Our mind won’t let us manifest something that we think we want but really don’t feel good about. We are good – we serve people for good in our work, we volunteer on soccer teams and church committees, and we dedicate our lives to our spouses and children. We are not murders and terrorists, so let’s stop thinking that prosperity is selfish and that we are undeserving, and let’s open ourselves to receive the blessings we desire and deserve.

Imagine it is one year from now. You are writing a letter to someone who cares about your well being and success, and sharing with them all the GREAT things that have happened this past year. Your business has taken off, you are out of debt and making more money than ever, the kids are thriving, your marriage is stronger than ever, and your health is at an all time high. These are just a few of the things you share that have happened throughout the year.
Take time to reflect on how you would like your life to transpire over this next year, thinking about all the key areas of your life. Then write a letter to someone – not to send, but to keep for yourself – telling them about it as if it has already become.
Setting goals gives us a great feeling of starting anew. But if our goals aren’t created properly, we are setting ourselves up for failure right from the start. Setting goals gives us a great feeling of starting anew. But if our goals aren’t created properly, we are setting ourselves up for failure right from the start. So next time you create your goals, add this additional element to ensure your success. Not only do you want to write them down, look at them daily, and take deliberate action toward achieving them, but you also want to visualize them as if they have already happened. Want to lose 20lbs? Visualize yourself 20lbs lighter. Want to make $100k this year. Visualize yourself putting $10k checks in the bank every month. Want to pay off all your debt? Visualize your balance sheet saying $0 due. Visualizing your goals is the missing ingredient to achieving what you want to accomplish. Enjoy the experience, and enjoy your visions coming to be!
Action is fascinating because action is habitual. You can be in the habit of action or the habit of inaction – both having dramatically different results. The more you create the habit of action, the more action you take. And the more you create the habit of inaction, the harder it is to get started. [...]
Action is fascinating because action is habitual. You can be in the habit of action or the habit of inaction – both having dramatically different results. The more you create the habit of action, the more action you take. And the more you create the habit of inaction, the harder it is to get started.
Which habit are you in? What holds you back? All it takes is that first step. Then another step. No one EVER said it has to be the right step because you can adjust along the way. It just has to be a step, and all the rest will work itself out.
What is the moral of this story? Don’t wait until your perfect plans are made and your fears are gone. The perfect time is now. Take the first step, then make the other steps a habit.
We all hear about the importance of setting goals but do you do it? Why or why not? Is it lack of discipline? Is it that it’s not that important to you? Or is it that you may not reach your goals anyway, so why even bother? If you set goals that are tangible and [...]
We all hear about the importance of setting goals but do you do it? Why or why not? Is it lack of discipline? Is it that it’s not that important to you? Or is it that you may not reach your goals anyway, so why even bother? If you set goals that are tangible and attainable and not a pie-in-the-sky wish, then you do have the ability to reach them, create of track record of success, and develop your goal setting muscle. And if you don’t have the discipline or the habit of setting goals, is it worth the reward to develop the discipline? I say that it is. I have seen it time and time again.
Answer this question: How is it serving you to not set goals? How would your life be changed if you did?
Assignment: Try setting daily goals that you know you can accomplish. Make them simple, attainable, and most importantly, make a commitment to achieve your goal for that day. This will build your confidence, create the habit, and build your goal setting muscle.

Great leaders that have gone before us have told us that one of the secrets to their success is to start acting like a success before you are one. Picture yourself, carry yourself, and talk to yourself as if you have already achieved the level of success you desire. Think about how you would act, what your lifestyle would be like, what you would do with your time, the clothes you would wear, and the car you would drive. Think about these things often. Taste them, feel them, smell them and hear them. Experience them with your whole being again and again. You become what you think about. AND you become what you move toward. Start moving in the direction of who you want to be by acting as if you are already there.
Did you know that there is so much abundance in the universe that if everyone got what they wanted, there would still be tremendous abundance remaining? You were meant to be abundant. Did you know that there is so much abundance in the universe that if everyone got what they wanted, there would still be tremendous abundance remaining? You were meant to be abundant. This is a universal law. You were not meant to suffer, and struggle and only take what you perceive to be “your share.” Dr. Wayne Dwyer talks about being able to go to the ocean of abundance with a Mack truck 100x a day and never deplete it, not even a smidgen.
Are you open to receiving unlimited abundance or do you feel that you are just taking “your share” because you don’t deserve more? How much have you determined is “your share”? Is it what you really deserve or what you think you deserve? Remember there is tremendous abundance available to you, and YOU were meant to be abundant. So consider a shift in your thinking and take a trip to the ocean of abundance.

The most important thing you can do to change your life is to change your thoughts. I know, it’s easier said than done I know. We all have a pattern of how we process our thoughts. For some of us this pattern serves us better than others. But the good news is that you can change it. How do your thoughts serve you? Can you notice them and choose what to do with them in the moment? Or do you let your thoughts control you? Just because a thought comes in doesn’t mean it is true, and doesn’t mean you have to think it, believe it or accept it. Try to be more conscious of your thoughts, just like when your stomach growls for food. And when your thoughts come, determine how they are serving you and what to do with them. Then do it.

In order to receive blessings in your life you must believe 2 things. First, you must believe that whatever you want is possible. And second, you must believe that you deserve it. It’s one thing to believe that it is possible to have a healthy and prosperous life, and completely another to believe that you deserve it. You were meant to be prosperous – in health, love, joy and finance. Do you believe that? Or are sabotaging thoughts permitting you from receiving your blessings? If you want to receive these blessings, then you must eliminate the sabotaging thoughts and replace it with a simple mantra that says “I deserve to receive blessings in my life.”
